Graduation Day in Albania: More Than Sewing

Friday (May 15, 2026) marked the completion of our Sewing Seeds school here in Albania, and honestly, it’s hard to put into words just how meaningful this week has been.

What began only days ago with introductions, nervous smiles, translators, fabric, and sewing machines has now ended with a graduating class full of confidence, accomplishment, and pride.

Students completed their final projects and final exams before gathering together for our Graduation Celebration. One by one, each woman received her certificate of completion along with her final grade, and we are so proud to share that our class was made up entirely of A and B students.

But the truth is, their grades only tell part of the story.

Yes, their sewing skills improved tremendously over the course of the week. We watched them learn patchwork, zippers, cutting patterns, ironing, precision sewing, and creating finished products from start to finish. The growth in technical ability was incredible to witness.

But what impacted us even more was everything that couldn’t be measured on paper.

The increase in confidence.
The smiles that became bigger every day.
The laughter filling the classroom.
The friendships formed.
The courage to try something new.
The pride on their faces as they held up completed projects they never imagined they could make.

By the end of the week, the room felt completely different than it did on Day 1. What started with uncertainty slowly transformed into confidence, connection, and joy.

As a team, we will leave Monday feeling deeply moved by these women, their resilience, their willingness to learn, and the love they shared with us throughout this experience. And while we came here to teach sewing, it’s clear that something much deeper was created inside that classroom, God’s love.

There is hope here.
There is talent here.
There is potential here.

This week reminded us that empowerment often begins in simple ways, learning a skill, being encouraged, being seen, being celebrated.

To our graduating class: we are so proud of you.

To our translators: thank you for your heart, love and language!

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your journey, even for a short time. You have impacted us more than you know.

And to everyone following along and supporting Sewing Seeds from afar, thank you. Your support is what makes moments like this possible.

We celebrate 10 incredible women, their hard work, and everything that lies ahead for them. And we cannot wait to share more with you at our Grateful Vision Dinner Celebration in October in Calgary.
